International Historic Motoring Awards "Book of the Year." The
awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 22.
Nash-Healey – A Grand Alliance examines in exquisite and exacting detail the story behind America’s first postwar sports car and the unique Anglo-American partnership between Nash and Healey that gave it life, which became an international triumvirate with the later involvement of famed Italian coachbuilder Pinin Farina.
Focusing on the lives and careers of the men behind these fantastic machines, this book dives into their prior accomplishments, before reviewing the design and development of the Nash-Healey roadsters and coupes. It also explores the marque’s incredible competition record at iconic races like the Mille Miglia, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Alpine and Monte Carlo rallies. Lavishly illustrated with almost 1,200 images, most never before published, including several from Donald Healey’s own personal photographic collection, this book is essential for all Nash-Healey enthusiasts and fans of sports cars from the breed’s golden era.

English Translation:
In June 1945, Donald Healey began building cars, and in 1949 he began building the Healey Silverstone, which was powered by a Riley four-cylinder with a 2,443 cc displacement and 106 hp - and Briggs Cunningham, a wealthy American who would try to win Le Mans several times in the 1950s, quickly got in touch. Cunningham wanted a Healey Silverstone with a Cadillac V8 engine, which Healey also built. Its impressive performance prompted Healy to build a small series with the engine - but Cadillac refused to supply the engine. The trip to the USA was to take a different turn, however, when Donald Healey and his son met George W. Mason, the president of Nash-Kelvinator Corp. – the producer of Nash vehicles, on the return journey on the Queen Mary. The latter was prepared to provide Healey with engines, manual Borg-Warner three-speed gearboxes, cardan shafts and differentials. When the ship arrived in England, a corresponding contract was signed. Mason also wanted to sell the new sports car through his own dealer network, because Nash had no sporty model or image carrier to offer. Carrozzeria Pininfarina was chosen for the look, the attractive car celebrated its world premiere in October – and the prototype X5 developed for the race track finished fourth in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in July 1950. But the adventure was not to last long – in 1954, production was stopped after 514 units had been built, despite brilliant results in motorsport. Ultimately, the car was too expensive. John Nikas and Hervé Chevalier have dedicated a fantastic book to the Nash-Healey – two volumes, 800 pages, 1,192 pictures. The history of the Nash-Healey cannot be covered more comprehensively – another masterpiece by Dalton Watson. Thank you, Sabu Advani and Speedreaders, for the great review!July 2024

Hervé Chevalier In 1976, Hervé Chevalier purchased a 1957 Austin-Healey 100-Six (BN4), beginning a lifelong infatuation with the marque. Over the course of two decades, he searched out and collected photographs of the Healeys, Nash-Healeys and Austin-Healeys that competed at Le Mans, primarily as a means to entertain friends while on car outings. In 1998, Chevalier authored and published Les Healeys au Le Mans: 1949 to 1970, documenting Warwick’s rich experience at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Highly regarded as one of the marque’s most valuable resources, he has authored an additional eight books, each covering a particular model or Les Healey en Competition. An inaugural member and past president of the Le Club Healey France, Chevalier is considered the marque’s leading resident authority in France and one of its most active advocates. He resides in Marcoussis, France with his wife Florence, both active participants in driving events and at shows across the Continent.
