by John Nikas, tables by Rodger Attaway
LATE 2024 RELEASE
One of the most enigmatic teams in motorsport annals, Shadow Racing thrilled audiences around the world and produced some of the most memorable vehicles ever constructed. Emerging from the unique vision of American entrepreneur Don Nichols, Shadow debuted in the Can-Am series in 1969, later expanding into Formula 5000 and Formula One, where it recorded more points than an American team had ever before received. Although it competed at racing’s highest levels for little more than a decade, Shadow left an indelible and remarkable imprint on racing fans, who remained fervent supporters through the various triumphs and tragedies that the men in black experienced.
With more than 1,000 photographs, most never seen before, informative and entertaining recollections from team members, designers and drivers, not to mention a comprehensive review of the team’s competition record, Racing in the Shadows provides almost unprecedented insight into an American legend that is certain to please racing fans on both sides of the Atlantic.
